Smith and Fauble to run TCS New York City Marathon

Smith and Fauble to Race 2018 TCS New York City Marathon

FLAGSTAFF, (AZ) – AUGUST 23, 2018 – The New York Road Runners have announced the men’s professional field for the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon. HOKA ONE ONE Northern Arizona Elite marathoners Scott Fauble and Scott Smith will join a star-studded group that includes defending champion Geoffrey Kamworor, five-time Olympian Bernard Lagat and 2016 Olympic Marathon sixth-place-finisher Jared Ward.

Fauble will make his return to the marathon after a spring season where he finished top-ten at two USATF Championships. He was second at the USATF 25k Championships in May and recorded an eighth-place finish at the USATF Cross Country Championships in February. In March, he finished fifth at the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon in 1:02:58, a personal best. Fauble debuted in the marathon last fall at the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon where he ran 2:12:35, finishing ninth overall.

“I am excited about the opportunity to test myself against some of the best runners in the world,” Fauble said. “New York has an energy that I haven’t felt in any other venue. You can only be a pro-runner for a short time relative to your entire working life, so I want to jam it full of experiences and I can’t think of a more exciting and fulfilling experience than racing through the five boroughs.”

Smith is coming off two straight successful marathons. In April he notched his first top ten at an Abbott World Marathon Major, finishing sixth at the BAA Boston Marathon. Prior to Boston, Smith recorded a personal best at the Frankfurt Marathon in October, where he finished eighth in 2:12:21. He holds a half-marathon personal best of 1:02:34 from 2016. Most recently, Smith finished third at the Wharf to Wharf 6 Mile Road Race in Santa Cruz, California.

“Having never been to New York, I am really looking forward to the trip as well as the race. At this point in my career I think I’ve been able to find a good balance of enjoying the event and maintaining a sharp focus on the race,” Smith said. “It has taken me a long time to get to the level required to be competitive at these major marathons and I am excited to take another crack at one in New York.”

HOKA NAZ Elite head coach Ben Rosario said that New York was the perfect choice for Fauble and Smith.

“The New York Road Runners do such a fantastic job putting on a truly world class event with all the bells and whistles you could ever imagine,” Rosario said. “Over the last few years, Scott and Scott have performed their best on the biggest stages and there is no bigger stage than the TCS New York City Marathon.”
