Julia G

Half Marathon – 1:11:04 (2020)
Marathon – 2:29:58 (2020)

A native of Florissant, Mo., just outside of Saint Louis, Julia grew up playing soccer. She excelled on the pitch all the way through high school before going on to play collegiately at Southern Indiana University. It wasn’t until her senior year, after her college soccer career was over, that the cross country and track coach saw her running on campus and convinced her to try a different sport. She’s been a runner ever since.

Julia spent her first years after college focusing on a career in Corporate America, but continued to run and race. After running 2:39:11 at the 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon she began taking running much more seriously, ramping her weekly mileage up to 100+ miles a week, even with a full-time job. The work paid off with a win at the 2019 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon in 2:31:29 and a tenth place finish at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in 2:30:43. She joined HOKA NAZ Elite in October of 2020 and finished 10th at the Michigan Pro Half Marathon in her team debut. In December she set a new PB of 2:29:58 at The Marathon Project.

Early in 2021, Julia contracted COVID-19 and struggled with Long Covid symptoms for more than a year. Finally, in December of 2022 she ran 2:30:35 to finish 10th at the USATF Marathon Championships, capping off a hard-fought, stressful journey back to fitness.

With only one year of eligibility each in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, Julia made the most of it. She earned four Division II All American honors–finishing 11th in cross country, eighth in the indoor 5,000, fifth in the outdoor 5,000 and second in the outdoor 10,000.
